Gratutious film shot.

I been burning through so much film lately that I didnt realize I almost running out. All I have left is shitty ultra expired stuff. Probably the biggest batch of film I ever bought. Gives me another excuse to go out there and shoot.

From left to right: 10 rolls of Fuji Superia 400, 2 pro packs of Portra 400 (10 rolls total), 5 rolls of Ilford Delta 400, and 12 packs of Ilford HP5+ 400 speed film (36 rolls). The HP5 is replacing Tri X as my do everything film. HP5 doesn’t curl which makes for easier scanning.

Now in color.

After getting over the initial fear and logistics, I started souping my own color film. I was pleasantly surprised how easy  and consistent the results are. You can use the same time and chemistry for all C-41 film so that means less dicking around with different developer/times/technique.

The only catch is that the temperature has to be spot on and the smell of blix takes some getting used to (make sure you are well vented). The alternative was 2.19 per 35mm roll at my CVS done by some poor underpaid sod and 8(!!) per 120 roll at pro lab in Manhattan. A liter C-41 kit is like 35 dollars and you can develop lots more film than the kit lets on.

This is what 60 rolls of Kodak 800 looks like. Paying for this much film to be developed would really hurt my wallet.

I bet you suckas cant wait to see my results!

Film frustration.

I been developing film for a bit now so  know what i am doing. The Gods must be frowning on me from trying new developers. This was on Diafine, way grainy for this developer.

Developed 6 rolls in the last week all with inconsistent/useless results. 3 other rolls that came out completely dark out of the soup. Last night I was so tired i mixed two Diafine solutions and pretty much ruined 30 dollars worth of chemicals. Bet you don’t hear this kind of stuff in those romantic Lomo ads.

Oldies

Photos below from when I shot with a DSLR. Dont miss those days. Unseen evil forces delay my return to NYC. Rolls of developed film keep piling up as well. See ya suckas later!

Hot sticky summer in NYC.

Things have been kind of quiet on my tumblr. I have lots and lots rolls of film I have to get to. All my chemicals went bad and I have been super busy with work. Hopefully ill be moving back to the city soon, schemes in the works..

In the meantime enjoy the the stuff I have been shooting on my GRD.

Dubai and back.

My adventures abroad:

Dubai is a strange country. Just imagine a place solely dedicated to tourism and catering to rich people. Everything is very clean and has an artificial vibe. The huge buildings for example: Just seems like someone decided bigger is better and set a bunch monoliths down. ( Though the Burj Khalifa is a sight to behold ). I wound up taking less pictures than i thought since you cant just walk around in Dubai.

You literally have to drive everywhere. There are no sidewalks and every endpoint is usually a parking lot to a mall or other place to hand over your money to.  There is definately a divide between the bleary eyed people who work the hotels, restaurants, and bars versus the rich people they serve. Now this all sounds very black and white but its really how it is out there.

Social commentary aside. It really was an awesome experience.

This clown tagged along too.
